Replacing a Canon SD1000 Screen
If you crack the screen on your PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph camera, it can be repaired, although it is a bit tricky. Don't try this unless you are very sure of yourself and careful. Be willing to lose the whole camera if you make a mistake. Certainly don't do this if it is under warranty. The replacement screen is part number CM1-4131. Take the screws from the side of the camera out with a jeweler's Philips screwdriver. Pry off the battery-side edge first:
The wrist strap bracket will come off:
There are two more screws inside the camera that you need to remove:
Carefully pry the screen out from under the retainer in the corner:
The camera frame comes out of the shell at an angle:
I was able to push the ribbon cables back into the connectors without trouble. The hole worked well with a nudge from a jeweler's screwdriver. Before you put it all back together, it can be tested by turning it on:
